Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow
Johnathan was able to see snow for the first time over Thanksgiving in NJ. We woke on Sunday morning to a lite dust. It wasn't much, but at least something.
Santa Already....
Johnathan got an early Christmas gift from Aunt Anne and Uncle Bill over the Thanksgiving weekend...his first Christmas gift!

Bananas
So, after all we have been through with Johnathan and solids, it was time to try bananas......well, that didn't go over very well as you can see....I don't think he likes them!

Round 2
Yep...that's right...round 2 at Scottish Rite Children's Hospital! Wednesday we tried rice cereal (just plain old rice cereal) and ended up back in the hospital. We are all still not sure what is causing Johnathan to have the reactions he is having to solids. It appears that he is going to have to be treated like a lab rat for a while. We have been asked to take another 2 weeks off of anything but nursing and then we will try a completely different food group and see how he reacts. Who knows, hopefully in 2 weeks we won't be visiting the ER again.

Sorry, Sorry, Sorry....
I know last nights blog was a little random and I guess I should have said why they think he was so sick. Just remember we had not slept but a few hours in the past 48 hours, so I was completely out of it. Basically, it was a combination of two things. A reaction to the carrots and having some type of bug. Like the doctor said....really...who is allergic to carrots...nobody. All of the test came back fine except there was a small amount of bacteria in one of them, but that could have been caused from the vomiting. Other then that, his little body was probably not ready for carrots mixed in with a stomach bug. So, we will now be the crazy parents who will stop all solids and stick to nursing until he is at least 6 months just in case it was the food. I guess he will always have a good excuse not to eat his carrots!

It's been a while...
since we have pulled in the driveway at a time when others are getting up to start their day! No, Dave and I didn't have some wild date night and stay out dancing until the wee hours of the morning, nor were we doing anything that was the slightest bit fun. We had the biggest scare of our lives. Here's the quick version of what happened.
Friday Night
7:00 PM- Feed Johnathan Carrots and rice cereal (1st time feeding him carrots)
8:00 PM- Leave the house go to grab a slice a pizza quickly, because we still need to run in the grocery to grab last minute items for a gathering we were hosting with some of Dave's coworker to watch football on Saturday.
9:00 to 9:30ish- Checking out in the grocery, Dave is holding Johnathan and he begins to vomit violently. We get out to the car and he is still vomiting and begins passing out.
9:30- We jump in the car and rush to the hospital. As bad as it sounds, I wasn't even able to keep Johnathan in his seat, because he is vomiting over and over and would choke on it if he was laid back in his seat. Plus, I am do whatever I can in order to keep him awake and from passing out.
9:45ish- Check in the hospital, they monitor Johnathan order x-rays of the chest, etc, etc.
10:00- Connect Johnathan to an IV, take blood and begin test
10:30ish- Northside in Forsyth County decides we need to be transferred to Scottish Rite Children's Hospital for further evaluation and order an ambulance for transfer.
(What?!?!?!?!? An ambulance....Neither Dave and I have ever been in an ambulance yet our 4 month old is about to be in one) Dave leaves to run home and grab a change of clothes for both of us since we were both covered in vomit.
11:00ish- Ambulance arrives at the hospital to transfer Johnathan and I
12:00 AM- Check in Scottish Rite. Johnathan is attacked by a team of nurses connecting him to monitors, the smallest blood pressure thing I have ever seen and people all over him poking and prodding.
12:00-4:00 AM Johnathan is monitored given meds, keeps down some pedialyte and seems to be coming around.
4:30- Dismissed from the hospital and we are sent home.
5:30- Arrive home to start this day that has been the most confusing day ever.
We have never been so scared in our lives. I have to say, we have to count our blessings, because being in Scottish Rite and watching children being life flighted in due to seizures, truma, etc. makes you realize your vomitting son is so lucky. But, it doesn't take away from the fact that being there with your child is the most frightening thing ever.
So, needless to say we have not had much rest and don't plan on much tonight either. Johnathan still a little under the weather. We could use a few extra prayers this evening!
